It’s been many months since I’ve posted something on this blog. I realised that some people have been following my blog, and so I’m posting this just to let you know what has transpired in the last few months, and to say a few things about the future of this blog.
I started my Masters programme back in September. It is no coincidence that my posting tapered off at the same time. Simply put, my MPhil in Economics is detrimental to my writing. Due to the compressed nature of the programme – most universities have a 2-year programme while I’m doing a 1-year programme – a lot of my mental energies are spent trying to digest and absorb the ridiculous amount of material they’ve crammed into the year. This leaves me with very little energy to write. Then there’s also the fact that this course is almost entirely mathematical. Advanced math and coherent writing are antithetical, at least in my case. And whatever is left in my tank needs to go into research for my dissertation.
What this means is that I’m going to take a temporary break from blogging. Well, technically since I’ve unofficially been on break since October, treat this as the official notice. While I enjoy writing, given it is the way I process and develop ideas, most of the ideas I’m having to wrestle with at the moment pretty much lie in the academic realm of economics, and since this is not an economics blog, I’m afraid there is very little for me to post up here.
But I’d like to stress the word temporary. Once this season in my life is over, I would like to pick up where I left off. If you would like a date, I’ll most likely resume sometime in September. For now, I’ll let the Apostle Paul have the final word – “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Just to let you know not to expect anything until next weekend 🙂
I realise Psalm 8’s running a bit late. I haven’t had time to write it yet, with today being a little busier than I had anticipated. I promise to have it up by tomorrow.
I also missed last Friday’s post. Again, I was too busy to finish writing it. I will complete that this week and post it up on Friday.
I’ve had an extremely busy week and will be having a pretty packed weekend as well. I’ll resume posting next Friday!
Just a quick word on my posting patterns for the current season to readers of my blog.
I’ve already written this in my foreword to the blog. However, being a subscriber to RSS feeds myself, I realise that this is not the best way to dispense blog-related information to all readers, which makes this post necessary. So I’ll just copy and paste what I’ve written below, and then let me add a few more things on top of that.
I’ll try to post something every Monday and Friday. For the current season, I will post up some thoughts (approx. 500 words) on a psalm on Mondays, and stand-alone articles (of indeterminate length) on Fridays. If I can think of something bite-size (<300 words) to say, it’ll appear on Wednesdays. Feel free to comment on and question anything you read here. Happy reading!
I plan to go through the book of Psalms in numerical order. Some Psalms are a little longer (like Psalm 119), and if I deem it necessary to do so I will publish more than one post on the psalm. I chose Mondays for this because I feel that the Psalms are a good way to start the week.
Contrary to what I’ve written above, my Friday posts are not only limited to stand-alone articles, but will also include occasional book reviews and other articles that fall under the category of several specific issues I’m currently thinking through (for example my writings on how Christians should engage the political sphere).
Finally, if my mind, eyes or ears stumble across anything interesting (or funny) during the week that can be expressed in less than 300 words, I’ll post these thoughts and links up on Wednesdays.
